S-A-N-T-A!!

We've had a few bumps in the road the past few days.  Not sure if I would even call them "bumps," but we'll go with that for now.  I was sick all weekend with an awful bug consisting of boofing up everything in my bodily system.  I was a hot mess Friday night through Sunday morning.  When I woke Sunday morning feeling a little better, Matt woke with a similar bug.  Thank Heavens Connor survived without catching it.  I would gladly go through it all over again instead of having my child go through it.  That would spell miserable!

Then on Monday, I left work early because I was still feeling rough.  I picked Connor up from my parents' house & headed home.  Our regular 20 minute drive home turned into nearly TWO hours.  Thanks to the wonderful trucker that drove into the overpass of I-75 on Daniels Pkwy, our regular route home on Daniels was CLOSED & we got to take a detour down I-75 two exits South...to then get off the exit & back track through horendous traffic.  A 'fun' detour + feeling sick would have been enough, but Connor decided to fall asleep in the car within 5 minutes of being in the car...so by the time we rolled into our driveway at 6:00pm & I was fully exhausted, Connor awoke from his refreshing long nap & was roaring to go for the entire night.

At least he looked pretty darn precious snoozing in the backseat...

Then on Tuesday, I had a "meeting" with a court ordered Parent Coodinator.  I don't know what is more exhausting & frustrating...having to sit across from a mentally ill narcissist for an hour expressing how "unfair" things have been over the past 3 years of his life OR having to sit across from a "Professional Psychologist" who feels that since someone else is mentally ill that I AM the one who should work to make things easier for him.  If I was asked, "What can YOU do, Megan, to make things easier for {INSERT DESCRIPTIVE WORD HERE}?", I may have exploded.  I'm honestly surprised that my vomiting attacks from the stomach bug didn't act up again after that meeting.

I went home that night & was gifted with a beautiful gift from God.  Connor slept all night from about 8:40pm to 9:00am, giving me a long, much needed night's sleep on my hubby's shoulder.  It was just what I needed.

We woke this morning ready for one fine day.  We started with baking cupcakes for Connor's school to celebrate C's birthday.  Strawberry cupcakes with buttercream frosting was what the birthday boy requested, so that is what we did.  I went against all my "Mom-sense" on reasons why NOT to let Connor lick the beaters & we dove right into licking the beaters AND bowl clean.  I did it (and still do) and have survived it.  Let the tradition continue...

Connor is so my child.

We went down our daily checklist----worked on some daily "curriculum" of letter writing, matching seasons, shapes, etc, cut C's hair (which always feels like a HUGE item to cross off my list), went to a new carwash place (which involved an automated screen telling us what to do, a carwash attendant who pushed my sideview mirrors in & directed us onto a conveyor belt thingy where we put our car in neutral & coasted through one neat carwash experience), and then headed over to "Papa's favorite fishing store" aka Bass Pro Shops to see Santa.

Before you all think I'm crazy for visiting Santa on November 14th...

Let me explain.

We go to Bass Pro Shop to see Santa every year.  Its always a magical experience with World's best looking Santa, but the line is usually terribly long full of impatient children (including my own).  I have Connor's birthday, Thanksgiving (C's Thanksgiving with us, our Thanksgiving with the Sears family, our Thanksgiving with the Whitaker family), and Christmas (same scenario as Thanksgiving)...so scheduling in a day/time where we could see Santa around work schedule & around the days Connor isn't with me & I was fearing it wouldn't get done when I'd like it too...Sooooo... we went a good month before Christmas.  No biggie in the eyes on a 3 year old!

We spent 2 hours in the Magical Land & pretty much had the place to ourselves.

It was awesome.

I was pretty bummed when I saw that the Santa that we've seen ever since Connor was 3 weeks old was now a different Santa.  The new Santa was a little less warm and cuddly looking, but Connor didn't seem to mind!

The "Toy Land" in Bass Pro is full of kiddie areas, like trains, race car tracks, and video games in the North Pole area.  We always flock toward the train table.  Since we were crazy enough to visit Santa in November, Santa wasn't busy at all with other kids...so he came & played one-on-one with Connor.  It was so neat to watch.  Connor was amazed.

Then Connor became pretty comfortable.

"Santa, this is how you do the train.  Watch this."

They stopped & Connor was reminded he was hanging with the Santa Claus.

The Bass Pro 'elves' pulled out a fun remote helicopter & caught Connor's attention.

"Hey Santa. Come check this out with me."

A few random kids started to trickle in to see Santa, so we had to share him with others.  We played a good while at the race car table and then I decided to let Connor try to "blasters" aka rifles to hunt the animals.  I'm pretty anti-guns for kids, but if I call them "blasters" it feels a little less dangerous.

Connor looked like a natural...with his pink gun...

I convinced Connor into saying farewell to the big jolly man.

I'm sure we'll go back again before Christmas.

This age is going to be the BEST this Christmas season.

Thanks Bass Pro Santa for some great memories today.

Dear Ryder,

As we finalize the plans for Connor's upcoming birthday party, we just want to say that it won't be the same without you there.  We miss you & look forward to seeing you again (hopefully) soon!

Simple & Crafty day!

A few days ago, this sweet lady I work with made Connor a 'sled.'  She made one for her grandkids & thought Connor would enjoy one too!  Boy, did he ever!!  We toted it to the park & had a blast.  Just some sturdy cardboard & twine!  Running while pulling 45lbs on the cardboard was pretty exhausting.  I kept explaining to Connor that I needed to take a break & catch my breath.  He'd just respond with, "I caught your breath for you.  Ok, go!"...Gee, thanks bud!  I convinced him to give his gooey lizards a ride in between rides. :)

Earlier in the day, Connor & I spent a good hour roaming Target for random crafty items---stuff for Connor's b'day party as well as holiday gifts for Connor's teachers at school.  Since Connor has 3 teachers, we were trying to be crafty yet economical.  We ended up picking up items to make these for Ms. Evelyn, Ms. Kristen & Ms. Kim.

A simple wisk and bag of Hershey kisses created this cute gift (idea courtesy of Pinerest.com)!

We also bought some crafty items to make a sign for Connor's Candyland birthday party next week.  Hopefully when I'm done making it, it won't look like Connor made it! Wish me luck! :)

Happy Halloween 2012!

Mama took the day off of work & we let the Halloween festivities continue all day long.

Connor slept ALL night the night before (you have no idea how wonderful that was for us!).  It's been bedtime bootcamp around here lately.  Connor does a better job listening to Matt tell him to stay in bed than Mama.  We all woke well rested Halloween morning & we knew it was going to be a lovely day!

Our first stop--Miromar.  I had read in the paper that they were holding come Halloween crafts, so we headed up there.  The playgrounds turned out to be more attention grabbing than the pumpkin coloring sheets, so we played hard for about an hour.  Connor is so quick to socialize with the other kiddies & it wasn't long before he was playing tag, holding hands with youngin's to help them up the steps, and racing little guys around the playground.  When his friends started to trickle out, he grabbed me for some good ol' hide & seeking.  When our stomaches started to growl for lunch, we grabbed a sandwich, said "hey" to the ducks, and headed out.

On the way home, I suggested we swing by "Papa's fish store" aka Bass Pro Shop.  Connor never passes up a trip to the store with the best stairs & elevators!  We climbed the steps, snuck in a quick picture with Charlie Brown & the gang, then road the elevators down (about 3 times...).

We snuck in a fish lesson, where Connor can identify a few more fish species.

"Redfish have spots on their tail."

"Snook have a long stripe."

"Whiskers is the kitty cat fish."

We went home, hopped in bed for a quick nap, then woke bright eyed & bushy tailed & ready to get suited up in his costume!

One.precious.Woody.

Kaylee & Austin headed over to trick or treat with us!
The cousins all decked out & ready to go!

Jessie & her favorite Sheriff Woody

Matt got home just in time to head around the neighborhood with us.  I was very happy!  *Sidenote: Halloween marks Matt's 1 year with Parker Hannifin.  So proud of him.

We met lots of our new neighbors & saw hundreds of neighborhood kids!
This was Connor's first Halloween of being very verbal.  Since Connor doesn't like chocolate, he was the kid that would sift through each candy bowl looking for a lollipop or gummies.  We got up to the first house & Connor goes, "I don't like any of these."  I quietly whispered to Connor that if he gets to houses & doesn't like their candy/chocolate, Mommy will trade him for gummies when we get home.  From that point on, he did a good job of picking candy, then turning to me & saying "Here Mom! You can have this!" :)

The kids were in and out of their wagons throughout the evening, but they were happy to ride on our way back home!

Austin & Kaylee had to get home to bed since they had school in the morning, but we opted to move out in the front yard & Connor, "the candy man," helped hand out the remaining candy to trick-or-treaters.

Sad to put away our blow up pumpkins now that Halloween is over.  Connor has fun naming the pumpkins each year.  This year, from right to left, they are:
"Ki, Sarah, Emma, Lilly, Mommy, Matt, Nana, Papa, Auntie Katie, Auntie 'Cole..."

Every time we asked him to name the pumpkins, their names would change slightly, or he'd name about 10 more names than we had pumpkins... :)

We packed up & headed in for a late night supper before bed.
My boys are the cutest :)

We hope everyone had a Happy Halloween!

The wedding photos continue...

A few more pictures from our wedding.

It's kinda fun getting a few pictures at a time--every week or so I get to relive the memories with new pictures!

Danielle Lutz rocks.

The girls :)

My little 'scarface' showing off his face scratches.  Still the cutest kid ever.

The guys looked so handsome...especially the one in the middle :)

The best 'cheese' face that ever was.  I'd like to freeze frame this age.

More to come...
